Your journey begins in Arusha, the vibrant safari capital of Tanzania and the main gateway to the northern circuit. Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Mountains 2 Marshes Tanzania Expeditions representative will warmly welcome you and provide a detailed safari briefing before transferring you to your hotel in Arusha. The drive from the airport to the city takes approximately one hour, covering about fifty kilometers along a scenic road framed by views of Mount Meru. Arusha is known as the safari hub of Tanzania and offers lush green surroundings, vibrant local markets and a cool climate ideal for relaxing after long international travel. Depending on arrival time, guests can enjoy leisure activities such as swimming, spa treatments or short city tours to cultural sites including the Maasai Market and the Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre. Luxury guests stay at Gran Melia Arusha while mid range guests enjoy comfort at Forest Hill Hotel or Ritz Arcadia Cottages.

Day 2

Tarangire National Park

This morning you depart Arusha after breakfast for Tarangire National Park, a journey of about two and a half hours covering one hundred and twenty kilometers through beautiful rural landscapes and Maasai villages. Tarangire is famous for its towering baobab trees and its massive elephant populations which are among the largest in East Africa. The Tarangire River, which flows year round, attracts countless animals during the dry season including zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffaloes and predators such as lions and leopards. The park is also a bird watchers paradise with more than five hundred species including colorful lovebirds, hornbills and impressive raptors. You will enjoy a full day game drive exploring different sections of the park, stopping to observe wildlife behavior and stunning vistas. Optional activities include guided walking safaris outside the park, hot lunches in private bush settings or cultural visits to nearby Maasai communities. In the evening luxury travelers stay at Escarpment Luxury Lodge or Moonbow Lodge while mid range guests enjoy accommodation at Farm of Dreams Lodge in Karatu.

Day 3

Transfer to Central Serengeti and Game Viewing

After an early breakfast you begin the scenic drive to Central Serengeti, a journey of approximately four to five hours depending on wildlife sightings along the way. The distance is about two hundred and fifty kilometers passing through the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and into the vast open plains of Serengeti National Park. On arrival you enjoy your first game drive in the Central Serengeti, one of the most wildlife rich areas of the park. The region is home to large lion prides, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and massive resident herbivore populations. With its dotted kopjes, acacia woodlands and sweeping grasslands, the Serengeti provides some of the best photographic opportunities in Africa. In the afternoon you check in at Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge for luxury accommodation or one of the mid range camps such as Moyo Tented Camp, Anantya Camp or Serengeti Serena Lodge. Optional activities include sunset viewing, guided nature walks around camp or relaxing by the lodge’s scenic pool.

Day 4

Full Day in Central Serengeti

Today is dedicated to exploring the heart of Serengeti National Park. Central Serengeti is particularly known for its year round wildlife densities and excellent predator sightings. A full day game drive allows travelers to cover multiple habitats including river valleys, grasslands and rocky outcrops where lions and leopards love to rest. Depending on the season, guests may also witness segments of the Great Migration where thousands of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains. The area is also excellent for spotting hyenas, serval cats, jackals and a variety of bird species. You may choose a picnic lunch in the wilderness or return to the lodge for a hot meal before continuing your afternoon game drive. Optional add ons include a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti at sunrise followed by a champagne bush breakfast, offering a truly magical aerial experience. You return to Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge or your selected mid range camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater & Departure

After breakfast you leave the Serengeti for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a journey of about three hours covering one hundred and fifty kilometers. Upon reaching the crater rim, you descend over six hundred meters into the world famous Ngorongoro Crater for a half day game drive. This ancient volcanic caldera is home to nearly every major wildlife species found in East Africa including lions, elephants, zebras, buffaloes, hippos and the critically endangered black rhinoceros. The crater floor features diverse habitats such as freshwater lakes, swamps, savannas and acacia forest which support vibrant birdlife and incredible ecological diversity. After enjoying this world class safari experience you ascend the crater and begin your transfer to Arusha for departure. Depending on flight time, optional activities include visiting a Maasai boma or exploring local craft markets.
