Lake Natron is a dramatic soda lake located at the base of the active Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, known as the Mountain of God. Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a Mountains 2 Marshes Tanzania Expeditions representative will warmly welcome you and provide a private transfer to Arusha, a journey of approximately 55 km taking about one hour. Arusha is the gateway to Tanzania’s most iconic national parks and sits gracefully at the base of Mount Meru. You will check in at the luxurious Gran Melia Arusha, known for its stunning mountain views, peaceful gardens, fine dining experiences and exceptional service. Mid range options include Forest Hills Hotel and Ritzy Arcadia Cottages, both offering excellent hospitality and comfortable surroundings. Spend the evening at leisure enjoying the hotel facilities or resting after your international flight.

Day 2

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, depart Arusha and travel approximately 120 km to Tarangire National Park, a scenic drive of 2 to 2.5 hours through rural landscapes and Maasai grazing lands. Tarangire is famous for its picturesque baobab forests and is home to the largest elephant populations in northern Tanzania, making it a must visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The park spans over 2,800 square kilometers and features rolling hills, seasonal swamps, the Tarangire River and diverse wildlife including lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and hundreds of bird species. A full day game drive allows you to explore different habitats where animals gather, particularly around the water sources.

Day 3

Lake Natron

Depart Tarangire after breakfast and travel toward Lake Natron, a unique and remote destination located in northern Tanzania near the Kenyan border. The journey covers approximately 200 km and takes about 4 to 5 hours, offering breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley, Maasai villages and dramatic volcanic landscapes. Lake Natron is one of the most remarkable natural wonders in East Africa, characterized by its bright red alkaline waters, active volcano Oldoinyo Lengai and its importance as the primary breeding ground for millions of lesser flamingos.
You will check in at Lake Natron Camp or African Safari Lake Natron Camp for the luxury package, while mid range travelers stay at Masai Giraffe Eco Lodge. Day 4

Northern Serengeti National Park

In the morning, depart Lake Natron and begin your scenic journey toward the Northern Serengeti. The drive covers approximately 210 km and takes 5 to 6 hours, passing through remote landscapes, open plains, rocky escarpments and wildlife corridors. Upon entering the Serengeti, game viewing begins immediately. The Northern Serengeti is the heart of the Great Wildebeest Migration from July to October as thousands of animals gather near the Mara River preparing for dramatic crossings.

Day 5

Northern Serengeti National Park

Spend the entire day exploring the Northern Serengeti, focusing on wildlife rich areas around the Mara River. Midday sightings often include riverbank wildlife interactions, crocodiles sunning themselves and hippos cooling in the water. Day 6

Return to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, depart the north and drive south toward the Central Serengeti, covering approximately 155 km with a travel time of 4 to 5 hours. As you travel, you will witness migrating herds depending on the season, as well as predators that follow them. The Central Serengeti, especially the Seronera Valley, is known for its permanent water sources which attract wildlife year round. Afternoon game drives reveal classic Serengeti scenery with golden plains dotted with acacia trees and large concentrations of lions, cheetahs, and hyenas.

Day 7

Ngorongoro Crater

Depart Serengeti after breakfast and travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, approximately 150 km away with a travel time of 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a 5 to 6 hour game drive inside this extraordinary volcanic caldera. The crater is one of the most wildlife dense areas in Africa, home to approximately 25,000 animals including black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, gazelles, hyenas, flamingos and abundant birdlife. The crater floor is a natural sanctuary with lakes, open plains, woodlands and swampy habitats that support a rich variety of species.
